After spending much of her career caring for patients in emergency and critical care settings, Asha Mathew, FNP-BC, chose family medicine to build the kind of lasting relationships that are only possible in primary care for children and adults. As a board-certified family nurse practitioner, she enjoys helping patients stay healthy through preventive care while also serving as a trusted resource when new health concerns arise or chronic conditions require ongoing management. Her extensive background in emergency medicine allows her to approach every patient with strong clinical judgment, careful attention to detail, and the ability to recognize subtle changes that may require further evaluation.
Asha is passionate about helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and involved in their healthcare. She understands that medical decisions can feel overwhelming, so she emphasizes open communication, practical education, and collaborative care that empowers patients to better understand their health and their options. By creating an environment where questions are encouraged and concerns are addressed with compassion and respect, Asha helps patients of all ages feel supported as they work toward their long-term health goals.
Asha earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bengaluru, India, before beginning her career in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre in New Delhi. She later continued her nursing career in the United States, spending many years in high-acuity emergency departments in Illinois and Arizona, where she cared for adults and children with traumatic injuries, life-threatening illnesses, and other complex medical conditions. During this time, she also served as a charge nurse and preceptor, mentoring nurses, nursing students, and emergency medical personnel.
Motivated by a desire to provide ongoing, relationship-based care, Asha earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University and became a board-certified family nurse practitioner. Her clinical training included primary care, urgent care, pediatrics, and women's health, preparing her to care for patients with preventive, acute, and chronic healthcare needs.
Asha's clinical interests include preventive care, chronic disease management, cardiovascular health, and patient education. She is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and maintains advanced certifications in emergency, trauma, pediatric, and cardiovascular care.
Her commitment to excellence has been recognized with several professional honors, including Nurse of the Year at Rush Copley Medical Center in 2024 and Pediatric Champion of the Unit in 2023. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Emergency Nurses Association.
